Get outside and love Mother Nature! A local’s guide to the best shaded trails in Austin

It’s summer in ATX and you want to enjoy the outdoors but still stay cool. I’ve got my local favorite spots to share with you!

First up, we have the center of the city, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake, maintained by the Trail Conservancy. By far the most well-known and popular. Lots of beautiful garden spaces, sitting areas, art, and access points. I run this one often and when I’m ready to cool down, I just rent a kayak, paddle board, or jump into Barton Springs and enjoy the water!

Next, Brushy Creek Regional Trail! Spanning from Cedar Park to Round Rock. You’ll find picnic areas, frisbee golf, benches, playgrounds, creeks, splash pads, and a tranquil deep shade trail by my favorite skatepark!

Finally, my all time favorite but you have to promise you’ll keep it a secret! St. Edwards Park and Trail. Bring a swimsuit because you’ll want to jump into one of the many swimming holes and waterfalls. This trail has many routes and at the top of the hill is a wildlife bird sanctuary! Parking is limited because this is a local secret!

There are many more but these are some of my favorite trails that offer the most shade.

River Place Canyon Trail

Georgetown Lake Trail
