Creation has given us a magnificent planet unlike anywhere in the known universe. Often, our home, Earth, is called the privileged planet because so many special conditions had to line up together. A few examples, the right sun at the right distance, the perfect combination of land mass to water mass, the right temperature, an oxygen rich atmosphere, our own Moon to stabilize our axis and so much more. Our home is special indeed. This planet is it for us, there is no planet B!
Think about the richness, the abundance and the beauty our home gives. Everything we need is here. Earth is about 4.5 billion years old with the first humanoids appearing about 3 millions years ago. As humans developed into modern form we became inextricably linked to our environment. The same spark of life is in all living inhabitants of Earth sometimes called Gaia. Shared ecosystems right. For instance, we human share 60% common DNA with plants and up to 85% shared DNA with dogs. Take that further, all human have gut microorganisms that are designed to live in our intestines. These gut microbes make up humans most major influence on the way we think and our strongest point of immunity. Of that, 30% of our beneficial gut microbes come from clean soil.
Gaia, Mother Nature, Earth, Creation, whatever you would like to call our home goes much further in helping us than that. Consider just a few critical functions of Mother Nature –
- Provides us with an Oxygen rich environment and cleans the air.
- Provides us with fertile soil to grow our food
- Provides us with clean water and fisheries
- Provides us with timber and minerals to build with
Now let’s take Gaia’s gifts even further. Mother Nature gives us sanity, peace of mind, creativity, clarity, psychological healing and physiological healing. All this is given to us free by Nature. Male of female, young or old, black or white, rich or poor Mother Nature shares equally with all of us, wanting all of us to have the best life possible.
Think of the places we hold sacred, holy and exceptional. Most often they are in Nature and are places of great beauty and awe. Sometimes it is magnificent sunrise or the intense beauty of seeing our illuminated moon on a dark night or a special meadow or a solitude walk among trees. Often, we are just stunned and entranced by these spectacular wonders. We can also enjoy these gifts with our own private gardens, lawns and landscapes. Even a few house plants or looking at pictures of Nature provides us with life affirming gifts. In these places our mind and body heal. Stress, anger, anxiety melt away and are replaced by feelings of health, joy and renewal.
As we all know, plants release essential Oxygen, but few know that plants also release up to 260 other chemical compounds (most are odorless) that we breath in and are absorbed through our skin. We have been able to follow these chemical compounds (Terpenes) and determine their effect on us. These terpenes have been shown to repair neurological damage and activate our natural killer t-cells which then hunt for cancer tumors and harmful viruses. Your more advanced medical doctors are prescribing Nature Therapy (sometimes referred to Forest Bathing) as a way to advance patient recovery.
Another powerful and free gift of healing from our beloved planet is a practice called Earthing. Earthing means connecting your bare skin to Earth. Simple take your shoes and socks off and sit outside with your feet on the ground. Lay down if you want nude or with natural fiber clothes. Grass, sand, rock, or a woody path, it makes no difference. But the connection to Mother Earth does. All scientifically proven, as the Earth’s electrons move up from the Earth’s core towards the celestial, they can pass through the human body reducing inflammation, healing wounds, healing diseases and removing antioxidants.
So, with all these gifts and concern that Mother Nature gives us, why would we ever give her back poisons like chemical pesticides and chemical fertilizers? That’s like your Mom giving you chicken noodle soup when you sick to help you feel better, and you her giving arsenic back.
Earth, Mother Nature, Gaia is special and the only one we have. Lets’ love her everyday.
